Scottish Dark Sky Observatory
The Scottish Dark Sky Observatory occupies a fantastic hilltop site on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park. This new public observatory lies near Loch Doon and Dalmellington, in the magical Craigengillan estate, under some of the darkest skies in the UK. All visits must be booked in advance.
Dumfries House
Dumfries House is one of Britain’s most beautiful stately homes and best kept heritage secrets. Saved by the intervention of HRH the Prince of Wales in 2007, Dumfries House combines the architecture of Robert Adam with the furniture of Thomas Chippendale. Wonderful gardens.
Crawick Multiverse
The Crawick Multiverse is a hidden gem nested in a bowl of rolling hills in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway. This major land restoration project, on the Duke of Buccleuch’s Queensberry Estate has transformed a former open cast coal mine into a spectacular Artland and public amenity.
Burns Birthplace Museum
Robert Burns Birthplace Museum offers a truly unique encounter with Scotland’s favourite son. The museum comprises the famous Burns Cottage where the poet was born, the historic landmarks where he set his greatest work, the elegant monument and gardens created in his honour along with a modern museum
Drumlanrig Castle
Overlooking the Nith Valley, in stunning countryside, stands this prime example of 17th century Renaissance architecture and one of the best in Scotland. An excellent collection of period furniture and fine artwork are among attractions for visitors on the guided tours. There is also a tearoom, gift shop and craftwork studios.
Dick Institute
The Dick Institute features two Contemporary Art Galleries with a regularly changing programme of exhibitions, and upstairs there are large museum displays of Local and Industrial History, Fine Art and Natural Sciences. Featuring full disabled access, the Dick also houses a public library and reference library.
